1. Description

PhotoPeach is site for the creation of online slideshows with music and captions. It is an easy to use program that kids and adults can enjoy. The application can be used to share pictures and create multimedia presentations. The background music choices are: random, instrumental, and classical with a dozen choices per option as well as uploads from YouTube. The paid version of PhotoPeach allows you to upload your own music. The free version of PhotoPeach allows you to upload 30 pictures, every photo after that is stored on the server. PhotoPeach allows you to upload pictures from your computer or other sites like Facebook and Picasa. Uploading pictures goes very fast and if the program has a problem with one of them it displays a warning message and moves on to the next one. This is a great feature because the whole process is not halted because of one file. Once you have created the slideshow you can share or embed it in a webpage or blog. Unfortunately only the paid premium version of PhotoPeach allows you to download your slideshow. Editing is a breeze because the controls are intuitive and most students should have no problems using it.

It took me less than five minutes to familiarize myself with this program and create a slideshow. You can login with your Facebook account or create one with PhotoPeach. There is an advertisement free educational version of PhotoPeach that provides access for one educator and 50 students. This type of account does not require email account for student so teachers don't have to keep track of multiple accounts. Once you have created your slideshow you can choose to make it public, unlisted, which means that only those with a link can access it, private or make it accessible by invitation. Even after creating the show you are able to add and delete photos and rearrange them easily. This is a great feature for the classroom because the teacher can use this to teach students editing techniques. The teacher can easily demonstrate this on the ActiveBoard for all to see. If you choose to upload music from YouTube a thumbnail window appears next to your slideshow when minimized, but disappears when you have a full screen.

Another great feature of PhotoPeach is that it offers you the ability to create quizzes. So, the slideshow would be a quiz for a particular lesson. On each slide the teacher can enter a question and three multiple choice answers. She then checks a radio button for the correct answer. When the slideshow plays the questions pop up and the program starts counting down from 5 to 0. The correct answer appears at the end of the countdown. This would be great tool for formative assessment by doing a whole class quiz or randomly assigning students to answer questions as they pop up. The speed on the slideshow can be adjusted for students who need more time to answer. PhotoPeach gives you the option to allow or disallow comments. Teachers may choose to use this feature for peer evaluations of projects. This would teach students to give each other written constructive feedback.

There is a gallery of numerous slideshows created by others listed under categories like Education, cooking, Technology and more. Students can browse through them to see what others have done and get a good sense of the capabilities of the program. The website has a Spotlight feature that highlights a particular slideshow. It seems to be based on the number of followers that person has. Overall this is a great program that could be used to enhance teaching and learning.

3. Classroom use
PhotoPeach is a simple photo slideshow creator that can be applied for many purposes. It can be used fro grades K-12. I can see myself using it as a bellringer to get students ready for a new unit by giving them a quick overview of the prerequisites. It can be used for whole class quizzes where students give answers in unison. This is also an excellent tool for students to create reports and class project, e.g. field trip slideshows, life cycle of a frog, etc. There is a good probability that PhotoPeach would be used in the classroom. The caveat is that teachers might be reluctance to have students use a tool that allows them to download music from YouTube.

4. Diverse learners

The slide shows have visual and audio options that should satisfy both visual and auditory learners. This slideshow can be posted on Edmodo or similar site for students to access at their leisure.
